Pedagogy
The Marpaling School follows the Indian national schooling program, while adapting it to Zanskar’s original traditions, such as its original Tibetan language and its Buddhist Lamaist culture.
This program, made in respect with the local context, is made up of all the fundamental academic subjects like alphabetization, mathematics, geography, history, natural sciences, arts, with a special emphasis put on language learning (which all have their own writing): Bodhi (the local language, a Tibetan dialect), English and Hindi from the lowest classes, then Urdu from the 4th class.
In order to improve the teaching quality, the RZA organizes some pedagogic trainings that are given to the teachers, especially for computer sciences, didactics, labs, etc. Successful skills exchanges happen during summer in the school between European voluntary teachers and our teachers in Zanskar.
Each year, exam sessions are organized in coordination with the Lamdon School of Leh. The RZA is proud to notice that the global level of the kids of the Marpaling School is considerably higher than the Indian national average. As a proof, after an adaptation period, former students of the Marpaling School often continue successfully their cursus outside Zanskar.
